New all-natural wine bar opened by Farmer's Apprentice now open for business.
We love a low-key wine bar. We love a low-key wine bar with excellent locally sourced snacks even more. We especially love a low-key wine bar with excellent locally sourced snacks that opens up mere blocks from the Western Living office. So, yeah, we’re pretty into Grapes and Soda. It’s located right next door to Farmer’s Apprentice (which took home an armful of awards from Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards, including Best Restaurant, just last year) and that’s no coincidence—the new, 25-seater room is also owned by FA’s David Gunawan and Dara Young.Grapes and Soda embraces the same au naturel vibe of its sister resto, stocking a curated list of natural, organic and biodynamic wines (mostly from France and Italy) and serving up a selection of small plates inspired by the season. Think snap peas topped with goat yogurt and sprouted wheat berries, paired with a Clos Roche sauvignon blanc, or charcuterie from Vancouver’s D-Original Sausage Co. alongside a glass of Jean-Marc Bourgaud Morgon beajoloais. We’ll be killing time there in the future while we wait for a table at Farmer’s, but it’s worth a trip of its own accord just to test-drive the innovative cocktails (try the GNC Clover Club, which pairs tequila with a housemade beet and rhubarb juice, egg white and lemon thyme), especially during happy hour when specials abound. See you there.
